Ironman Cork for East Cork Rapid response

Conor Casey is doing Ironman Cork Ireland this year on August 20th.

This year I am going to try and raise some money for East Cork rapid response which is a fantastic organisation that provides first responder support for any accidents/issues in East Cork. East Cork Rapid response provided assistance to my brother Patrick 24 years ago when he was involved in a car accident and later passed away. So this year I would like to try and raise some money for this Voluntary organisiation.

Ironman course is a 3.8Km swim, 180Km Cycle, and a full marathon run 42Km. Total distance = 226Km (140.6Miles). This is the distance from my home in Dungourney, Cork to Dublin to put it into perspective

I first did a triathlon 2 years ago and completed the Ironman Half last year (113 Km) in Cork and I felt great after competing around East Cork last year and decided that I really wanted to do the Full Ironman in Cork. Actually last year when I was collecting my gear at registration I felt jealous of the guys doing the full IM so I knew that I had to try it if the half IM went ok.

So after months and months of training long cycles at 5.30 in the morning and long runs and swimming I think I am in a position where I can complete my first Ironman in a few weeks. Last year in the half IM was my first time doing a half marathon and keeping with that tradition this year will be my first time doing a full marathon. As much training as you can do I don't think anything can prepare you for your first Full Ironman so i'll be keeping an eye out for everyone cheering me on during the long day. I don't have a time that I am aiming for I am just looking to finish so it could be anything from 13 to 17 hours to complete the race.
