I’m heading to Malawi to help build a school and I need your help :)
As part of a team of 25 female engineers, I am heading to Malawi in May to construct a new classroom block at a local secondary school.
The students of Malawi need our support. I want to help them realise their potential through STEM subjects and make a positive impact within their communities.
Design work begins ahead of the expedition and I am lending my time and technical experience in partnership with the local community. This expedition is the challenge I am seeking in my early career as an engineer to push myself while making a positive contribution to improve other people’s lives.
I am seeking your financial support towards my ambitions to raise £1500 to cover part of the fee of the expedition. This includes meals, accommodation and transportation within Malawi for two weeks provided by sustainable small businesses in the local communities which helps to boost the local economy.
The total personal cost of the expedition will be £3,500. I am funding my visa, insurance, flights, medication, expedition deposit, a trip within Malawi and other costs which are estimated £2,000 from my personal savings.
A separate team fundraising page for building materials is also available which you're welcome to donate to.
If you want to follow our journey please follow the team expedition on Twitter (@STEMBuildMalawi ), Instagram (@STEMbuildMalawi) or blog (STEM Build Malawi). We will be giving regular updates in advance and throughout the expedition.
Please contact me if you would like to know more. Thank you, your support is very much appreciated!!

More information about the project:
As part of a team of 25 women engineers working within the UK and around Asia Pacific, I am undertaking an Orbis Expedition to Malawi in May 2019 to design and construct a new Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) classroom at Rainbow Hope Secondary School.
Rainbow Hope Secondary School was opened in 2017 and educates girls and boys from the surrounding community. The school is operated by Community Initiative for Self Reliance (CISER), a local NGO based in Mangochi. The school was established to compliment CISER's efforts under School Sponsorship Program, through which it offers scholarly support to orphans and vulnerable children. Rainbow Hope currently has a total of 124 students. We hope that this new classroom block will allow them to expand the number of pupils as well as provide much needed STEM educational resources to help in the education of these Malawi children.

I am very passionate about advancing society through STEM and I have organised or got involved with volunteering initiatives that encourage STEM especially to young girls. Young people throughout the world need the skills and knowledge STEM provides to address problems within their communities. I will be delivering hands-on STEM activities to engage with the local students during the expedition.
