Inwood Community Services Fundraiser

Inwood Community Services has been a vital part of the Inwood neighborhood for over 40 years and provides mental health counseling, addiction dependency counseling, English as a second language classes, afterschool and summer youth programs and more.   We are still working hard to fulfill our mission during the COVID-19 pandemic emergency.

We are seeking donations to provide hundreds of our Inwood families in need with $50 weekly grocery vouchers to local supermarkets.  No donation amount is too small and all donations will go directly to families in need!

Although our offices are currently closed due to the COVID-19 health crisis, Inwood Community Services continues to serve our community.    We have transferred our programs to remote models and are working on ways to help those most affected by the pandemic.

* We have converted our two clinics (Ferrer Mental Health, and COAP Chemical Dependency treatment) to a complete telehealth model, and seamlessly continued to serve our clients (total > 1,000 community residents) in this time of extreme anxiety and stress

* We have converted our Wellness/Prevention Program to a combination of Google, Zoom, and related platforms so we can continue to offer evidenced-based Parent Support groups, Family Strengthening Program, and Teen Intervene counseling services

* In conjunction with the administration of each school, we have converted our seven Afterschool Programs in Inwood (serving close to 1,200 children) to various versions of Google Classroom, Zoom, and related platforms, to keep children engaged in afterschool programming, as well as in constructive socialization

*  We have converted our large Adult Literacy Program to a remote educational platform that includes classroom instruction, as well as independent literacy lab work

* Unfortunately, our large Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) has been canceled by NYC DYCD due to fear of COVID -19 contagion. That means that close to 1,000 neighborhood young people will not have jobs this summer.

*  We are conducting regular ‘wellness checks’ on all participants as a core part of our current work, especially in regards to clients, students, and families that have somehow slipped ‘off the grid’ during this abrupt transition.

In addition to all of the above, ICS is in the process of addressing a growing need in our community:  food insecurity consequent to the economic impact of COVID-19.   We are seeking donations to provide grocery vouchers to Inwood families in need.  Please help us to reach our goal.
