Hi, my name is Danielle, and my mother needs to be placed in a senior care government home. My father is in good health, so he does not qualify to join her. Because of this, the townhouse they have been renting is too expensive for him to manage on his own, and he will need to move out.

Due to their limited income, they were not able to save. The government must draw from my father’s pension to help cover my mother’s care costs, in addition to her Old Age Security and CPP. This leaves him in a difficult position, needing to move without any financial cushion.

I have offered him a place to stay rent-free so he can save money temporarily while waiting for a place affordable, he would prefer to live independently in a bachelor apartment that he can afford. He is currently on a waiting list for this.

As a single person with my own financial responsibilities, I am unable to provide him with financial support, so offering him a place to stay is my way of helping. Any additional support would allow him to build a small cushion so he can remain safe and stable. My sister will also be helping him manage his finances to make this possible.

If you are able to help my father maintain his independence, it would truly be a blessing. Every little bit helps and goes a long way. Times are difficult, and we are asking for support.
