International Reggae Day - Bob Marley Tribute
Cally Connects-Us is a group of local residents who have come together to strengthen community connections in the Caledonian Road area. Through sharing ideas, experiences and skills, we will empower residents to develop, grow and sustain their own small grassroots projects to improve life in the area.
Cally Connects-Us will be collaborating with Britain's Got Reggae to run an amazing event at the Islington Assembly Hall, that will be celebrating International Reggae Day with a Bob Marley Tribute by Tann-I Browne. This will be a free event if it goes ahead on the 4th July, time is against us so please read on as to why you should support our campaign.
Here is a little about us:
Cally Connects-Us Aims and Objectives
Cally Connects-Us is a Constituted Community Group made up of four residents from Islington and our aims are to:
1. Strengthen community connections in the Caledonian Road area
2. Empower residents to develop, grow and sustain their own small grassroots projects to improve life in the area.
3. Break down the barriers between different communities in the area in order to tackle the deprivation and social isolation many residents experience.
4. Build collaborations between local businesses and residents to support each other.
One of the members of the group is Cyrlene, a female entrepreneur of a multiple award-winning platform called Britain's Got Reggae and they will be collaborating on it. Events have taken place in many cities of the UK including Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, and Leicester but Cyrlene has never had the opportunity to run the event in Islington where she has been a resident for 19 years.
Cyrlene accidentally found out about the free hire scheme for Islington residents to hire at the Islington Assembly Hall. She put her idea together and completed the form, the council was very happy with her idea and her application was successful.
Britains Got Reggae Aims & Objectives
1. Using the power of music to bring communities together.
2. To provide platforms and exposure for conscious reggae artists to have an outlet and a platform to collaborate and share their music.
3. To highlight the impact that the sexualisation of music, violent lyrics or songs that discriminate against any individuals or groups, and the impact it is having on our youth.
Cyrlene would like to bring some culture to Islington as it can help to promote understanding and tolerance between different groups of people. It can help to break down stereotypes and prejudices and build bridges between different communities, and make Islington a more inclusive place for everyone. It can help to ensure that everyone feels welcome and respected, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or background.
We need to raise funds to make a payment to all those that are involved in the production that will be free to the people of Islington.
We have a Bob Marley and the Greats Tribute and a live band along with six artists that will be getting you all on your feet to have a dance.
