In 2026 the wealth gaps and health inequities are more prevalent and impactful than ever, and in many countries, there are simply not enough resources or medical practitioners to battle the ever increasing gap. It is up to us to begin the change we want to see.

Hi, my name is Sophia and I am an 18 year old student, in my final year of high school, who is pursuing medicine at university.

I have always been passionate about pursuing aid work pathways in third world countries and lower socioeconomic areas; working to decrease the health gap and provide education to those who need it. This year, I applied to International Medical Aid's medical internship and, after a long application and interview process, I was so excited to learn I had been selected and offered a position for this once in a lifetime opportunity in Kenya.

In IMA's program, "interns spend time in public and private hospitals, community clinics, and outreach programs, where they observe patient consultations, participate in health education efforts, and assist with basic tasks under the supervision of licensed providers."

This incredible opportunity is however, very expensive, as the amazing work IMA does requires a lot of funding. The internship is a total of $4,995 USD, not including flights from or to Australia or the initial $995 USD deposit. I am attempting to raise a total of $9000 AUD which should hopefully cover all of my funds and some of my travel.
