Dear friends,
We are five students from the University of Amsterdam participating in the International Development Project (IDP), a university initiative in which students collaborate with local organizations to support communities facing socio-economic challenges in developing countries.
This year, we are partnering with the Stichting Duurzame Samenleving Papua Barat (SDSP) for a one-month project in West Papua.
West Papua, located in the easternmost part of Indonesia, is a region with a complex history. It was formerly part of the Dutch colonial empire before becoming integrated into Indonesia in the 1960s. Today, many inland communities remain structurally underserved and face challenges such as limited access to education, healthcare, employment, and infrastructure.
For over 25 years, SDSP has been working to build a sustainable society in these remote inland communities that are often overlooked by development aid. Together with the local population, they focus on strengthening agriculture, education, healthcare, housing, and environmental protection, always with respect for local culture and identity.
During our project, we will work on a local cacao plantation to support farmers in improving sustainable production and economic resilience. We will conduct research on site and deliver a consultancy report with practical recommendations to contribute to long-term, community-based development.
Your donation will help cover travel, research, and project costs.
By supporting us, you are directly contributing to sustainable development in underserved communities in West Papua.
Every contribution, big or small, makes a real difference.
Thank you for your support.
