In many parts of Sierra Leone people go to bed hungry. Unemployment and lack of education keep many families trapped in poverty. But we believe that with the right tools, land, and support, we can turn our soil into a solution. ICF is an organisation started by Sierra Leonean refugee Marian Kamara living in The Netherlands to support her community of origin. The working partners and volunteer team are based in The Netherlands and in Port Loko Region of Sierra Leone. The organisation is active since 2015 and started a number of initiatives such as an orphan support program, a primary school and a farmer’s association that started a small scale agroforestry system. We have the vision to use sustainable farming to work together with the community to bring lasting development and impact people’s lives in many ways. This type of farming also helps to protect the environment, helps to provide healthy food to the poor and create job opportunities for those who need it most.
Most of the financing up till now has been Marian’s own investment, with some support of people in the team and network. While the goal is to develop profitable farming systems that can support the other activities, the farming project is currently on a very small scale, about 1 ha. While it shows good potential, it is too small to be economically viable. ICF farmer group has an area of 50 ha registered under it’s name, which we hope to transform into an agroforestry system in the coming years. ICF has a cooperation with an agroforestry/regenerative farming expert from The Netherlands who supports the implementation of the system and training of workers.
Our goal is to use farming to:
- Upgrade the farming system step by step, starting with an extra 10 ha in 2026.
- Train and employ local workers, giving them the skills and income to support their families.
- Expand sustainable agriculture in Siera Leone as much as possible, starting small and growing with your help.
- Support the orphanage and school project, by providing food, finances and training opportunities
Your support will help us to:
- Buy seeds, tools, and farming equipment
- Increase the tree nursery capacity
- Do land preparation and planting
- Pay for labour and hire permanent workers
- Pay for traveling, transportation and other cost
Your support will also help to sustain our work with orphans and education.
To keep our organisation running we have monthly costs, to pay our workers on the ground such as farm workers and teachers, facilities, etc. Monthly donations are most welcome, but also one-time gifts are highly appreciated.
We are now looking for a starting capital with a total of $10,000 and we hope to secure a monthly support of $500, to expand the agroforestry initiative with an additional 10 ha by the end of next year.
Whether you give $10 or $100, you’re planting hope. Every donation helps us take one step closer to feeding more people and giving them meaningful work.

Please share this campaign even if you can’t donate — that alone helps more than you know.
Thank you so much for being part of this vision!
