Integrative Medicine for All: Removing Barriers

Hello!

I'm Rachel, and I'm originally from Portland, Oregon. Almost ten years ago, a job with an inspiring nonprofit brought me to Nicaragua, and thus began a new chapter of my life.

With a background in nutrition and social work, I now live with my son in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. I've realized over the years that my true passion lies in bridging the gap between integrative medicine and public health. A medical model that is respectful and truly integrative is largely reserved these days for those with the financial means to pay for it. I aim to lay my 'granito de arena' (little grain of sand) to change this reality.

Along with a small team of dedicated individuals, I'm thrilled to announce the beginning of a project I've dreamed of for many years. Salud Para Todos Caribe (Health for Everyone, Caribbean) aspires to be an integrative, volunteer-run clinic and healing space for anyone without the means to pay for such services.

We are starting with 'ferias de salud' (health fairs) to more deeply understand the needs of the local communities we will serve and offer complimentary care and information in the areas of medical consults (both allopathic and naturopathic), nutrition, herbalism, reproductive health, and more. From there, our goal is to have a clinic/community center to offer ongoing care, host events and workshops, and more.

Soy Rachel, y soy originaria de Portland, Oregón. Hace casi diez años, un trabajo con una inspiradora organización sin fines de lucro me trajo a Nicaragua y así comenzó un nuevo capítulo de mi vida.

Con experiencia en nutrición y trabajo social, ahora vivo con mi hijo en Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. A lo largo de los años me he dado cuenta de que mi verdadera pasión radica en cerrar la brecha entre la medicina integrativa y la salud pública. Hoy en dia, un modelo médico que sea respetuoso y verdaderamente integrador está reservado en gran medida para aquellos con los medios económicos para pagarlo. Intento poner mi 'granito de arena' para cambiar esta realidad.

Junto con un pequeño equipo de personas dedicadas, estoy encantada de anunciar el comienzo de un proyecto con el que he soñado durante muchos años. Salud Para Todos Caribe aspira a ser una clínica integradora y un espacio de curación dirigido por voluntarios para cualquier persona sin los medios para pagar dichos servicios.

Estamos comenzando con ferias de salud para comprender más profundamente las necesidades de las comunidades locales a las que serviremos y ofreceremos atención e información gratuitas en las áreas de consultas médicas (tanto alopáticas como naturopáticas), nutrición, herbolaria, salud reproductiva, y más. A partir de ahí, nuestro objetivo es tener una clínica/centro comunitario para ofrecer atención continua, organizar eventos y talleres, y más.

Salud Para Todos Caribe promueve la salud integral como una herramienta para la justicia social, la conexión comunitaria y la sanación del cuerpo, la mente, el espíritu y el planeta.

Atención médica integral para todos, independientemente de la clase económica o cualquier otra barrera en el camino para recibir una atención respetuosa y de alta calidad.

Valores

Conectando culturas, respetando la elección de cada uno, eliminando barreras, empoderando a los curanderos indígenas y dando voz a sus tradiciones, promoviendo la atención médica como un derecho humano para todos, luchando por la igualdad, inspirando el cambio a través del activismo y brindando a los proveedores internacionales de atención médica un camino para reavivar el valor del servicio en la medicina.
