UPDATE: Earlier this year, Arroyo Repertory Theatre started a fundraiser to raise monies to upgrade and install a security system on our campus at St. James United Methodist Church, as a response to an increasing number of break-ins, vandalism and confrontations with unhoused strangers. These incidents affected the safety and peace of mind of all of the church’s participating organizations. When one particular break-in resulted in the theft of a valuable cross on display in the church’s sanctuary, the church appealed to the public for help. With the holidays nearing and with new and exciting developments for the campus and its participating organizations, we’ve set our sights on fulfilling this fundraiser’s goal by Giving Tuesday on November 21, 2023.
ABOUT US: The community on this campus is unique and home to a wide range of members of racial, socioeconomic, religious and cultural diversity, ranging from toddlers to senior citizens. Though the property is owned by the United Methodist Organization, this sprawling campus is home to four other churches, a local Toastmasters branch, and a multi-use collaborative and performing arts venue, Porticos Art Space, managed by the nonprofit Arroyo Repertory Theatre. The campus is a vibrant, inclusive space for people of different faiths and cultures to gather.
We’ve partnered with a security firm to install cameras, motion lights, and alarm systems to keep our community safe. With this work already underway, we need your help to cover these costs, in addition to upgrading physical hardware and repairing the broken parts of our campus: doors, windows, and locks. With an initial fundraising goal of $15,000, we are just over two-thirds of the way there. Your tax-deductible gift this season can help keep our community safe, vibrant, and welcoming for anyone and everyone who comes through our doors.
