In Loving Memory of Dennis Wood

Dear Friends, Family, and Kindhearted Strangers,
My name is Bill, and I'm reaching out to share the story of my beloved father in law (F.I.L.), Dennis Wood, on the request and behalf of my husband and Dennis' son, Ross Wood.
For those of y'all who'd rather cut to the chase, if you know me, you know that I genuinely have a really, really hard time asking for help in general. However, at this time I most give this need over to God. As this is no longer a burden we can bare alone. My mental health has deteriorated immensely from the struggle to be all the things I can for those in my life. My husband Ross and I have gotten to the point where we have chosen to set up this GoFundMe, ultimately looking to reach out for any possible help just to help us maintain the costs of Ross's ongoing chronic illness and healthcare needs.
If you could manage, any help at all, it would be so greatly appreciated as this recent development has truly been a shock that has made a significant, and unexpected impact on everything in our lives...
If you are interested and have the time to hear out the progression of how his situation unfolded, feel free to read below.
Thank you for your time, prayers, care, and concern during this extremely tough time. Every little bit helps. One day at a time!
Best,
Bill Herbert
(Son In Law to Dennis Wood; Husband to Ross Wood)

My F.I.L. moved down from Arlington (DFW area) to both live with us in our new Cypress (Houston area) home and also to help my husband and I with my husband's ongoing health issues. My F.I.L. had his own health scare at the beginning of March when he suffered a mild heart attack that lead to us finding out that he was previously undiagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. His heart by March 6th, 2025 was operating at about 25% efficiency according to the ER doctor, and then his cardiologist's reports.
On Friday April 11th, my F.I.L. and I went to the Cardiologist for a check-up and for his condition, he was in good shape and great spirits! ... Fast forward...
The following evening around 6:43pm, I found my F.I.L. collapsed on the ground, no breathing, no pulse. I performed CPR for 10-15 minutes while the Paramedics/EMS arrived and continued to administer CPR and AED. He was then transported to a nearby hospital...
We finally met with the doctor who had been with my F.I.L. upon his arrival to the ER and the doctor told us that my F.I.L.'s brain had been without sufficient oxygen for over 90 minutes by the time they resuscitated him... and medically speaking he was alive, even taking some breaths here and there on his own, but ultimately, he was also on life support. But then, the doctor honestly expressed that there was no medical reason he should've still been alive... the doctor said, "this is truly between him and God or whatever you believe or have faith in..."
My F.I.L. then passed away then next day at 2:51pm on Sunday April 13th 2025 on his own...
My F.I.L. Dennis is survived by his son, my dear husband, Ross Wood. He additionally left on this Earth two younger brothers and a younger sister. He was a proud, retired Army Ranger and retired consultant at Lockheed Martin. He was an amazing man, an incredible father, and most importantly a truly special human being. He loved life and had a way of making no one a stranger if he could help it. His death was so sudden, and unexpected, and he will truly be missed, but his light, his spirit, and his love for his loved ones and life and all it has to give will continue to live on.
Thank you for your time and attention. Please consider helping if you are able as every little bit truly helps. God bless and please take care yourselves!
