Help us reduce period poverty in South Africa!

Did you know? Around 30% of South African girls stay away from school once a month, because they have no access to period products. This shows: the female period is still a huge taboo in modern South Africa.

You can help us change that. For only 10€, we are able to provide girls with one packet of 4 reusable pads.

We have partnered with SafePad, a Cape Town based initiative producing reusable pads. Safepad is made of a soft material that provides protection and comfort. An antimicrobial treatment makes SafePad self-disinfecting both during use and after washing – even if contaminated water is used to wash it. An important aspect, as not all the girls have access to clean running water.

SafePad has an estimated lifetime of approximately 4-5 years, so its a first step to a long-lasting and sustainable solution.

Recap

Since the beginning of our project, we've been able to give out around 70 period packages to households in need. Each package includes 3 packs of 10 pads each and a bar of soap.

Additionally, we were able to host our first empowerment workshop. 15 girls aged 10-15 participated in the workshop, focusing on education on the female body and facing the stigma in the communities concerning menstruation.

We can't wait to continue our work in 2023!
