India Covid Crisis Relief
Donation protected
While we are here waiting for tulips to bloom in May, the scent of hospitals and cremated bodies is the current aroma in India. In these next few weeks, the United States is starting to become what we consider “normal” with capacity restrictions being lifted and the vast majority having the privilege to be vaccinated at the earliest convenience.
But in India, these next few weeks are a bit more morbid and fearsome. Cases are at an all-time high at 400,000+ new cases daily. With more than 4,000 deaths a day, which is grossly underestimated by official data.
Oxygen concentrators, ventilators, hospital beds, vaccines are all in a short supply. Oxygen is limited to those who have more money and influence and is being sold at a higher buy rate. People are fighting for their survival and their families through how much money they can give.
Every day my parents get a call from someone living here in the States telling them that their relatives in India have been infected and how hopeless they feel. Soon that phone call changed to my mother getting a call from her sister saying their whole family has been infected and that they have been hospitalized. My aunt cried helplessly that not even a doctor came to check on my uncle once.
Luckily my aunt’s family had recovered, but the same cannot be said about other families struggling. My friend’s grandmother passed away while waiting for an oxygen tank to be delivered. My friend’s grandfather passed away as they couldn’t even find him a hospital bed.
Stand with me in support to help fight the second wave of the covid-19 crisis in India.
Your donation can be as small as you would like and still change lives. If you are unable to donate, all I ask is that you forward this to others to help India breathe.
All donations are being donated to the non-profit organization, Pratham, 501(C)(3) organization, Tax ID 76-0620808 based in Mumbai, India. Pratham is working with hospitals in Mumbai and Gujarat in India to buy oxygen concentrators and other essential supplies such as rapid tests, PPE gear and vaccines.
