In search of asylum and salud
Rebeca Mendez Martín was totally heartsick when she spoke over a month ago with her husband, Ovil Daniel Leiva Martinez, and learned that he was separated from their 13-year old son, Jairon Daniel, in El Paso due to Trump’s Family separation policy. Jairon Daniel had a brain cyst that was beginning to impact his memory, vision and sleep. Father and son had made the treacherous journey from Guatemala in search of asylum and to receive medical help. Instead, Jairon Daniel was separated from his father and sent 400 miles away from him to Casa Padre in Brownsville, TX. Ovil was given a deportation order. Ms. Mendez Martín has been unable get a straight answer about whether her husband will be deported without her son and if her son is receiving any neurological care. Rebeca is desperate to get help to unite her family. And she is so deeply worried about her ill son.
