In Memory of Sally Rodriguez: Help with Final Expenses
Donation protected
- Hi everyone, my name is Brandon Hicks. I am the grandson of Sally Rodriguez. I am sharing this GoFundMe, not only in honor of my grandmother but to help with the necessary funds. She recently passed from a very long battle with dementia and chronic kidney failure. She was a very loving and caring person. She always enjoyed vacationing to Michigan to spend time with family when she could. She was a Floridian for most of her adult life (over 25 years). Her battle with dementia began in 2015. She would forget her car keys and basic things she was very good at, such as tracking bills, etc. Her car had to be taken away around 2021 because she could no longer drive. Mind you, she had glasses and bad arthritis, which only quickened her progression of the disease. Dementia is what I consider to be one of the silent killers because the individual becomes trapped in their own mind. This process is slow for most, and they are aware but not enough to realize what is slowly happening to them. She would tell me that something was wrong, but she didn't know what. After countless doctor visits and one or two calls that she was wandering, we understood the inevitable—that she was inadvertently regressing into her own mind. She was always a fighter, that old lady. She didn't want us to worry, but I think she knew something was wrong. She recently passed away from this unforgiving disease. All we ask is for help with the cremation costs and a little extra to pick up her ashes in Grand Rapids and to grab a bite to eat on the way; we'll definitely need it. This will be a long journey of grieving and healing.
