In Memory of Ray Brewster – Supporting the Lethbridge Dragon Boat Festival

The Lethbridge Dragon Boat Festival has always been more than just an event—it's a celebration of community, culture, and the heartbeat of our city. My dad, Ray Brewster, would be so proud to know he’s doing one last thing to give back to Lethbridge and the people he loved so deeply. As a lifelong supporter of live music and a musician himself, he believed in the power of music to bring people together. That’s why all funds raised through this campaign will go directly to support the festival’s entertainment committee, helping to ensure that live music continues to thrive in our city for years to come. He would be proud—so proud.

With deep and profound sadness, my family regrets to inform the sudden passing of my dad, Ray Brewster, yesterday at the age of 82.

Many of you know the love and respect I had for my father. He is—and always will be—my hero.

For nearly 50 years, my dad battled the relentless challenges of Multiple Sclerosis. The pain and suffering he endured were unimaginable. That he lived as long and as fully as he did is nothing short of a miracle. His strength, perseverance, and quiet determination in the face of such a cruel disease are a true testament to his stoic character.

His pain is over.
That... is the one thing I can be truly happy for at this time. I remind myself of this constantly as I begin the long process of healing—and eventually, celebrating the life of a truly remarkable man.

To honour my father’s memory, I will be dedicating our upcoming performance with my band, The Soupflies, at the Lethbridge Dragon Boat Festival on June 27th to him. This festival has always been a special part of our community—and my dad, a proud man of this city, never missed a chance to support my music and this city he loved.

This is more than just a tribute—it’s a way to carry forward Ray’s spirit and support the community he cherished.

If Ray touched your life, if my music has ever brought you joy, or if you simply want to honor the memory of a truly resilient and inspiring man, please consider contributing. Your support means the world to me and my family during this difficult time.

Thank you for standing with us.

With love,
Joe Brewster
