In Memory of our Friend Carl

We lost our friend yesterday. He was a strong individual with more limitations than any of us can imagine. Carl always remained optimistic through it all and lived his life to the fullest every day. He loved sports and people. But I think he loved his dog Trey more than anything.

Carl became a quadriplegic 9 years ago after a cyst turned into opportunistic myelitis that attacked the tissue surrounding his internal organs. Despite being a Type 1 Diabetic, he miraculously survived multiple surgeries that replaced tissue and removed the infection. This allowed him to heal, the only problem was, when he woke up, his body was no longer mobile from the shoulders down. Through much therapy, he worked hard to regain enough function to power his wheelchair and have some sense of normalcy and control. But as many of you know he lost all function again from the neck down after recovering from COVID. With only the ability to raise his right arm one inch off the bed to use his call button, we know there is no way he could have fallen from his bed. That is the explanation given by his facility.

Carl was only 38 years old. We know that he should not have died this soon and the circumstances are unclear. We hope and pray that investigations will reveal what happened because we know that Carl would find comfort in knowing that we tried to find out the truth.

It will take money to pay for an attorney and the cost of arrangements is more than his father can afford. We hoped you would find it in your hearts to help contribute toward this worthy cause and help us raise money and awareness of this tragic situation.
