As many of you will know, my late mum, Sam, lost her incredible 18-month battle with stage 4 cancer in March 2024, after initially being given just six months to live.

Most of you will remember what an amazing character she was. No matter the size of the hurdle in front of her, she always found a way over it. I still find it hard to comprehend just how brave, positive and optimistic she remained throughout everything she went through — right until the end.

In memory of my mum, I’ll be running the Sheffield Half Marathon and aiming to raise £800 for Weston Park Hospital, who looked after her with such care and compassion. Our family will forever be indebted to the nurses, doctors, and specialists who dedicate their lives to supporting those living with the dreaded C word.
