In Memory of Kato: Alleviate Vet Costs

Kato is my family's beloved dog and companion.

Kato has always been a healthy boy and had never had any sgns of significant health problems. Just two months ago he was given a good bill of health to travel with me back to Alaska.

On Saturday the 1st of November, Kato started to develop a cough, to which we thought was just him being slightly ill, we planned on taking him in to be seen on Monday. Yesterday, Sunday the 2nd, Kato worsened as he struggled to breath. My wife Sarah rushed him to the animal hospital here in Fairbanks, AK while I was at work. His situation continued to deteriorate as he developed tension pneumothorax from a collapsed lung. The wonderful vets at Mt. McKinley Animal Hospital and the after hours emergency vet clinic worked tirelessly to stabilize Kato. At approximately 7pm last night they were able to do so, and continued to monitor him through the night. This morning I transferred him back to Mt. McKinley to receive more treatment. Unfortunately, though stabilized, his breathing was still laboured and he was very much in pain. The cause of his sudden illness is still unknown, a CT scan could have told us more, but likely a heavily invasive surgery would have followed. One that, at his age, he either would not have survived, or would have lived the rest of his remaining months or potentially years, in pain. We tried everything with our available resources to save our beloved Kato Potato. Unfortunately we made the hard decision today that it was best to let him rest and be with God.

Through our efforts to save Kato, we acquired unexpected expenses to save his life. It's hard for me to even be asking this.

If Kato touched your life with his love, like he did ours please share, and consider donating, if you can. Anything would certainly help alleviate some of the financial stress of this unexpected traumatic event.

Kato was our beloved family dog who touched the lives of everyone he met.
He gave so much of his love to us and we are eternally grateful of the time we spent with him. We love you so much Kato, I can be calm knowing you are no longer in pain. I love you buddy.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to us and supported us in this difficult time. My family and I greatly appreciate your support, thoughts, and prayers, as well as taking time to read this. Thank you.
