Jamiel Sheikh was the founder of Blockchain NYC and AI NYC, a respected professor in machine learning, and a dedicated mentor to many. Above all, he was a loving father to his two daughters, whom he cherished deeply.
Full details: Three months ago, Jamiel had a heart attack in an Uber across the street from his house and died. His 19- and 21-year-old daughters were consequently left without any parents. They are struggling to navigate the loss of their father and dealing with the financial costs of his death. They are living with friends at the moment. Both are students at Pace University studying computer science and AI (One is a sophomore and the other a senior).
Thanks to this GoFundMe and financial aid their Spring semester tuition has now been paid, but the next hurdle is the fall: the final semester for the senior. The semester cost, after financial aid, for each student is approximately $10,000. The sophomore is consequently considering transferring within the CUNY system for the fall semester and going forward, but they both will still have to apply for financial aid and it is not guaranteed. The current priority is enabling the senior to graduate this year, and funding the sophomore’s education.
They both have jobs, but their salaries barely make a dent into living costs, tuition, and open debts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please share this with anyone who would like to help. Thank you!
