In memory of Hope Opoczynski-Booker

As some of you know Kim and I lost our darling daughter, Hope, on 10th April. She was only alive for 28 short days but in that time she enriched our lives so much. Her devastating loss is magnified by the currant pandemic making it difficult for friends and family to offer us their love and support.

She was diagnosed at our 20 wk scan with complicated heart problems. We were supposed to be seen at Great Ormond St but they had to close the week before her birth due to one of their cardiologists being diagnosed with Covid. We were then transfered to the Evelina at St Thomas'. She was born on 13th March after an emergency C-section as her blood pressure dropped suddenly. Her first surgery was after 3 days and after 2 weeks recovery we were told to get ready to take her home. After one of her discharge scans they saw that she no longer had blood flow to her left lung. They attempted to fix the vessel via a key hole procedure but it was too difficult so she required further open heart surgery to try to fix it. She had that and it seemingly went well, the surgeon was very happy with how it went but 5 hours post surgery her blood pressure dropped and the doctors tried but couldn't revive her! She endured so much in her little life but was always so calm and brave! We're very proud of her and miss her so much it hurts!

Both Kim and I have had a few inquiries about buying us gifts, doing our food shopping, donating towards some form of memorial, helping towards her funeral costs or donating money to a charity in Hope's name. These are all very kind offers and we appreciate them all. The fact of the matter is right now we don't know what we would like to do. I imagine that we would like to donate to a charity that will eventually mean something special to us but right now we don't have one in mind. Our grief throughout this period has been compounded by the fact that we still have no cause of death. The doctors are unable to explain why our beautiful girl passed away. When we finally have answers we will be better placed to know how we would like to donate in her name.

The pain of arranging her funeral has been something neither Kim or I imagined we would have to do. Her funeral will take place 12th May and we are limited to 8 guests and only basic arrangements. It seems so harsh that not only have we been robbed of the chance to watch our daughter grow but we can't even say goodbye as we would like.

Donations will be collected and then used the best way we feel will honour Hope and the 28 days of love that she showed us!

Thanks Matt and Kim x
