In Memory of Harry: Support Bwindi Hospital & Ride 4 a Woman

We are setting up this GoFundMe in memory of our beloved friend Harry Shuldman, who tragically lost his life in a car accident while we were traveling together in Uganda. After the accident, Zach Cava, Jeremy Wright, and Kyla Garten were transported to Bwindi Community Hospital where Zach and Jeremy received emergency surgery for their injuries.

The Bwindi Community Hospital is a rural not-for-profit facility located in Buhoma, Uganda, just outside of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Despite having limited resources, the hospital staff and volunteers worked tirelessly to get our needs met. We received countless visitors from the community, international volunteers, and even the governor.

We also received a great deal of support from an adjacent NGO, Ride 4 a Woman , which provided accommodations for us before the accident. This organization, started in 2009 by Evelyne Habasa and her husband Denis Rubalema, is dedicated to empowering and supporting women who are struggling with poverty, HIV, and domestic violence. During our stay at Bwindi Community Hospital, Ride 4 A Woman generously provided us with homemade food, juice, and pillows. Evelyne even slept on the floor in our hospital room to keep us company.

The immense grief we feel from losing our friend, along with the pain and challenges related to our physical injuries would have been unbearable without so much support and love from the local community. These newfound friends not only fed and cared for us, they also arranged the logistics to get us back home. To top it all off, the hospital didn't charge us anything for our stay.
