Help Inclusive Science Thrive in Memory of Dr. Eric Crandall

Donation protected
Dr. Eric Crandall was an Assistant Research Professor of Biology at The Pennsylvania State University who recently passed away. During his time at Penn State, Eric was a fierce advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion in science. He was the passionate founder and leader of the TaMIS (Towards a More Inclusive Science) Life Sciences initiative for which he served as a faculty advisor.

TaMIS Life Sciences organizes monthly meetings to discuss topics including justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion and works as a community to catalyze changes in teaching, mentoring, and research practices to make a more inclusive Penn State. TaMIS is open to all students, faculty, early-career scientists, and staff. More information can be found on the website: https://sites.psu.edu/hgsac/tamis-life-sciences/

In honor of Eric’s contributions to TaMIS, his friends and family are seeking donations to start a fund in his name and to continue his legacy of selfless giving. It is our hope that Eric’s vision of a better future for all will never fade and that the members of TaMIS can receive the resources they need to continue striving towards the following goals:

  • To provide support and a safe space for those who have experienced pushback in life based on who they are, where they come from, what they believe in, how they look, sound, speak, hear, think, move, feel, or understand the world.
  • To learn more as a community about the experiences of underrepresented voices.
  • Through discussion and action, to serve as a catalyst for changes to teaching, mentoring and research practices that will lead to a more inclusive life sciences.

Eric has been exceedingly generous with his time, kindness, friendship and mentorship. It is our hope that this fundraiser serves to keep Eric’s spirit of compassion and altruism alive. Your donation will help us immensely towards achieving this goal and keeping programs such as TaMIS flourish.
