In Memory of Clive Douglas
Hello everyone,
For those of you that do not know me, my name is Ella Moriarty. I am 19 years of age, and I am currently in Helsinki, Finland on Erasmus for college. Unfortunately, my uncle Clive passed away suddenly and tragically in November 2023, leaving us all devastated. I will be taking on a 450km cycle in his memory, aiming to raise funds for The Irish Heart Foundation in Clive’s honour. I will begin this challenge on the 30th of April and throughout May, with the final legs of the cycle taking place on my return home on 21st of May where Clive’s children and other family members will join me for the last remaining kilometres.
Updates for each cycle will be posted on my Instagram and TikTok accounts. If people could share this and spread the word to raise as much as we can for The Irish Heart Foundation. (Instagram: Ella.moriartyx).
Some words from Anna, Clive’s sister.
In June 2012 Clive suffered his first cardiac arrest. He had been playing tennis and was resuscitated on the court. Clive spent a few weeks in the Mater Hospital and underwent an ablation operation for Ventricular fibrillation. He was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) and pacemaker and was prescribed a series of drugs. He had several incidents over the years where his device kicked in and he spent further time in the Mater and St Vincent’s Hospital. This was all extremely hard on him both physically and mentally. He read into his condition and knew so much about it and amidst the worry and how scared he must have been, he carried on with his life.
Clive collapsed on 26th October 2023 suffering a Ventricular Tachycardia. Every attempt was made to save his life and after 45 minutes Clive’s heart started beating again. He was admitted to St James Hospital ICU and spent 21 days in the care of their wonderful doctors and nurses. On the 15th of November 2023, his heartbroken family had to let him go. Clive was able to donate his kidneys, something he had always advocated for.
He was community orientated, a scout leader & his weekends were spent going between sidelines of his children’s football & GAA matches. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and hikes and had a great love for tennis, rugby and football supporting Liverpool and attending many Leinster matches.
Clive loved life and time spent with his family and many friends. Above all else, he adored his wife Emma and was a devoted father to Caleb, Eve, and Finn.
Clive’s passing has left a huge void in the lives of his family and friends. He is missed and remembered everysingle day. We are grateful to the Irish Heart Foundation for the support Clive received from his first cardiac arrest in June 2012 up to his death in November 2023. Clive was just 45 years old.
The Irish Heart Foundation was Clive’s chosen charityover the years, in which he contributed many donations and attended many fundraisers, hence the chosen charity.
Any contributions to this amazing, hardworking charity, big or small, are most welcome, appreciated and gratefully received.
