On Friday, June 2nd, Brian lost his battle. His battle was complicated as most battles are in life and in war. The battle of addiction is not easy to describe nor is it fueled by the same circumstances for each individual who faces it. Brian’s battle with addiction started shortly after the battles he faced during two tours in Afghanistan. Tours marked by the tragic loss of fellow Marines he loved and filled with acts of bravery that earned him a Purple Heart. Tours he was so deeply proud of serving in as a United States Marine, but that also left him with emotional scars far worse than the physical wounds he suffered. Brian battled severe PTSD over the course of nearly a decade. A decade filled with periods in which it seemed he might win against PTSD and the subsequent substance abuse that served to ease his pain, and periods so dark and difficult it seemed unlikely he would be victorious. Brian was a hero in each and every battle he faced over his short life. He fought as hard as he could until the very end.

Brian left behind a young son, Brian Jr. Brian loved his son deeply and carried a great sadness within him that he was not always able to support and care for him during his battle. Nothing would honor and make Brian happier than raising funds to care for his son. Brian Jr. has special needs that will require care and support throughout his lifetime.
