Odysseus George Kolotouros

Over the mountains of Kerkyra with Odysseus I rode.

On chariots of steel we tamed the twisting roads

As Jason and Pelagia at our sides did ride.

How to speak of ancient things we saw

And Odysseus so present as to miss nothing

Of the hidden treasures that awaited us

Past valleys deep and hilltops high.

How bursting with joy and curiosity

Was he, that through him all I had seen before

I was seeing for the first time.

Oh Odysseus, how I will miss you

Your ship has sailed and in its wake I wave.

I see you so well

Standing tall on the quarterdeck gazing at the moonlit sea

And always with the smile—yes, that smile, the one only you had.
