On July 4, 2025, a tragic and unexpected flood swept through Camp Mystic, claiming lives — including that of 8-year-old Abby Pohl. Abby was a radiant presence whose joy and spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Abby Lynn Pohl was a beautiful, bright light who lived life to the fullest in her short 8 years of life. She had a witty sense of humor and loved to laugh. She always brought an energy of joy and fun when she walked in the room. Abby was an incredibly compassionate young girl who always cared about people’s feelings and wanted everyone around her to be happy. She loved dance, playing sports, going to the beach, and spending summers in the mountains. She loved her older sisters Hannah & Reese with all her heart, they were her best friends and a constant source of happiness in her life.

We will miss Abby so much; she was a gift to all that knew her, and we are heartbroken that she is no longer with us.

There has been an overwhelming outpouring of love and support for the Pohl family during this heartbreaking time. In lieu of a traditional meal train, Friends of the Pohl Family will be collecting groceries, prepared meals and everyday essentials to help ease the daily responsibilities and give them space to be together as a family. The Pohl family will also be working to honor her legacy via support resources to non-profit organizations throughout the community.
