In Dire Need. Abuse, Legal, Family and Living cost

This is Amby Haines. My daughter, 3 grandchildren and I are in need of some help.

On Thanksgiving of this year, my daughter's x-partner (father of her two youngest), began by kicking my 81-year-old mother out during her first visit to our home because my daughter wouldn’t “obey” him. He then proceeded with telling my daughter he was going to knock her teeth out. He called the Police in an attempt to lock us all out and the neighbors called the Police as well.

LAPD officers arrived for the 7th time this year. Officers made him leave and escorted him out of our shared home to keep the peace. As soon as officers left, he came back in a rage and scuffled with my daughter while she was holding her 10-month-old baby. When I tried to intervene, he grabbed my cane and cracked me over the head, leaving me stunned, concussed, lost vision in one eye and bleeding from my head. He then grabbed the four-year-old and ran down the street. LAPD came back and arrested him. I filed a police report and immediately received an EPO (emergency protective order) for myself and family from the commissioner.

This has been the most horrific year for my 55-year-old self, taking the brunt of two physical assaults from him and ending up in the ER for protecting my unprotected. You can imagine what all this abuse has done to the children and their mother. It’s embarrassing. You feel hopeless and never want to share what goes on behind closed doors when it comes to domestic violence. Yet, we are hopeful that this “last straw” will help us move on from a traumatizing domestic violence situation.

We are protected legally for now. The hearing is set for 12/22/23. That said, time away from work for legal needs, paying for housing, household needs, utilities, food, baby requirements, gas, auto, storage, moving, therapy for all etc... ALL expenses with no assistance from the abusive father/ex-partner.

We know it is a financially difficult time for others, particularly with our current economy and being the holiday season, but appreciate any amount anyone is willing to gift. We would never ask or tell our story if our current situation wasn’t dire.

It's been a very dark time for our family, but we are hopeful for the next chapter in our lives. Your assistance can help us on our road to recovery and bring back the light and ambition to create healthy change for family.
