Hi everyone,

My name is Erin, and I’m from the Netherlands. I’m raising funds for the Travellers Oasis Centre (TOC) in Sultan Hamud, Kenya. A place that is very close to my heart. The school urgently needs a proper cover for their greenhouse so they can continue growing the fruits and vegetables that feed and sustain their students.

TOC is an all-girls secondary school, and these greenhouses are truly their lifeline.

The school was founded in 1999 by the compassionate couple Dr. Major S.M. Muiu and Dr. Mrs. Esther Muiu. Mrs. Muiu opened her doors and her heart to young girls who had nowhere else to go. Many were at risk of being sold into early marriage, exposed to genital mutilation, orphaned, or in danger of ending up on the streets. TOC gave them safety, food, a bed, education, and above all, dignity and hope.

In 2011, my life was profoundly changed by meeting them. At the time, a Dutch high school and a nonprofit had partnered with TOC, allowing 16 Dutch teenagers, including me, to travel to Kenya to help with renovation work. What I witnessed there has stayed with me forever.

This school is a sanctuary. And right now, this sanctuary needs our help.

Right now, their greenhouse is covered with simple paper that tears easily and has to be replaced three times a year. A specialist recently advised them to use a Solariq cover, which lasts much longer and can withstand the strong local winds, but it’s far beyond what the school can afford. This cover would protect their harvest, reduce costs, and secure their food supply for years to come.

Any contribution, big or small, brings TOC one step closer to securing the greenhouse that feeds their girls and keeps their mission alive. From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of the students and founders who have already changed so many lives, thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting.
