Immediate Aid for Gaza: Support NU's UNRWA Campaign

We are the Northwestern Muslim Student Association, SJP, and WildCatsforCeasfire. Right now, HALF A MILLION refugees in Gaza are classified as having food insecurity equivalent to famine levels of starvation, as defined by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC). Every person in Gaza is hungry per the World Food Programme. And four out of five of the hungriest people anywhere in the world are in Gaza per the UN Secretary-General. Around 90% of Gaza’s population has been displaced by the war, living in tents, UNRWA Schools and Hospitals, and in the streets. Cold nights and winter rainfall are exacerbating the already dire situation with lack of electricity and fuel.

All the funds will be directed to UNRWA, which is the largest humanitarian organization in Gaza. Of its 13,000 staff, more than 3,000 continue working: they are the backbone of the humanitarian aid operations. As of January 10th, UNRWA distributed 2.6 million pounds of flour, 2.5 million units of high energy biscuits, 3.8 millions cans of protein-based food, and 4.8 million dairy items. The colossal humanitarian needs of over 2 million people in Gaza now face the risk of deepening following the decision of 16 donor countries, including the U.S. and the UK, to stop financial support to UNRWA.

UNRWA provides Palestine refugees with food and non-food items such as blankets, bedding, and hygiene kits. $250 can provide a whole Palestine refuge family with lifesaving drinking water and food for an entire month.
