I'm running for his life.
Thank you for donating, I get that times are hard right now, so if all you can do is share this than I am still so grateful.
If you know me, then you know how utterly ridiculous this is that I am running a marathon. But on the 23rd April 2023 I will be running Blackpool Marathon for Andy's man club.
I have multiple chronic illnesses and training for a marathon, let alone running one, is going to be hard. But you know what's harder? Losing someone you love. Someone suffering in silence. Someone choosing to take their life.
When I was 5, I lost my uncle to suicide. It has been the most painful thing I have ever experienced and to this day, 22 years later, it still haunts me. I miss him everyday. I wish he knew how loved he was, how he could get help. I wish he knew how to talk about what he was feeling.
That's what Andy's man club does. Andy's man club is a male suicide prevention charity. It was established in 2016 after the tragic loss of Andrew Roberts to suicide aged 23. They facilitate non professional peer to peer support groups across the Uk and Scotland for any man to attend over 18. They provide a confidential non judgemental space for men to come together to chat about anything that they would like to get off of their chest. They have no waiting list, no referral or signing in process.
They are saving lives through talking.
There are men in my life now that I love so deeply who wouldn't still be here without the aid of Andy's man club.
I've lost a friend to suicide nearly every year since school. My social media newsfeed is always full of similar stories. We need to do what we can to make a change.
I have a lot of exciting plans for raising this money. So keep an eye out for announcements on that.
Coincidentally, the date of the marathon, 23rd April 2023, is exactly 3 years to the day that I walked away from my life and started again. Battling against my own demons. I am so happy that I chose to try again, to fight for my own life, so now I can fight for theirs.
I am running so more men go home to their loved ones. So more men continue to be fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, husbands, sons, partners and friends.
I am running for his life.
Thanks, J x
