I am going to run 100 miles in February 2025 running everyday that month.
I'm raising money in aid of ARFID Awareness UK and every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
Josh, my nephew, is 6. Josh is autistic and pre verbal, loves school, rainbows and numberblocks!
Sadly, Josh suffers from an eating disorder known as ARFID. This stands for Avoidant and Restrictive Food Intake Disorder and means that he is petrified of food.
Josh is so petrified of food that he has limited himself to just 2 foods since the age of 4. This has caused a massive vitamin deficiency and frightening weight loss resulting in Josh now requiring medical intervention via a PEG tube which will be shortly placed in his stomach, delivering much needed food and nutrition to his body.
Josh’s parents were denied support and turned away from specialist NHS services, citing that Josh was simply a “fussy eater”. This damaging lack of support is a common occurrence among many ARFID families in the UK, due to a lack of awareness and education of this eating disorder.
ARFID Awareness UK are trying desperately to educate, support and guide parent carers, health professionals and teachers about this eating disorder. Their aim is to empower parents and carers to feel confident about being advocates for children.
ARFID Awareness have a wide range of research, resources and support available and they can only continue to support parents like my sister advocate for their children with your help!
