Iftari for Asylum Seekers
Donation protected
Assalam-o-alaikum brothers and sisters,
As we watch the horrific and heartbreaking events continue in Gaza we wonder what will become of those who survive this nightmare.
- Displaced from their homes with nowhere to go many will be forced to seek refuge in other countries.
Working with asylum seekers as a GP has given me an insight into their lives and their struggles.
The life of an asylum seeker is full of challenges, uncertainty and hardship.
- After experiencing the torment of war in their own countries they have fled with no other alternative.
- They have lost loved ones during conflict or during the treacherous journey trying to escape to safety.
- Many may never be able to return home or see their families again.
- Once in the U.K. these individuals wait as their fate is decided by the Home Office.
- Their lives are in limbo for years with no right to work and no way to move forward.
This Ramadan we hope to provide some comfort by arranging hot meals for asylum seekers in Rotherham.
Working with Rotherham Ethnic Minority Alliance (REMA) our aim is to organise meals for asylum seekers currently placed within our community.
This will give them an opportunity to come together and have a nutritious tasty meal at the end of their fasting day.
It also provides them with support and a sense of community during a very lonely and difficult time.
We will also be looking for volunteers to help distribute the food in the coming weeks during Ramadan so anyone who feels they can give up some of their time in the evening please get in touch with me.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity. May you be rewarded abundantly during this blessed month.
