My assignment will take me to Ibagué Colombia from August 1st through the 15th. Our objective is to build a Eco-Gym and a community center while also helping the children lead less sedantary lives.
In recent years, Colombia has been on a steady coarse towards reducing poverty. Much has been achieved however not all sectors of the nation have benefited from from this progress. Even though Ibagué is the capital of the province of Tolima, it suffers from high unemployment and it's a divided city. The north consist malls, apartment complexes and hotels while in the south, poverty is widespread.
Poverty is one of the main reasons why children work. As a result many of the child and youth in the region are recruited by armed guerillas groups or gangs. In order to change and break this way of thinking we will be educating the children and making a difference by building the gym and community center.
