More information about East Texas Food Bank (Etfb): Hunger is a very real problem in East Texas. 177,016 people live in poverty, and 223,000 are near the poverty line. Having a limited income means that people must often choose between paying their bills and having enough food for themselves and their families. The East Texas Food Bank is working daily to ensure that no one in our community is forced to go without enough food, especially during COVID pandemic, by: - Providing food to people in the 26-county East Texas area through our 200+ agencies and ensuring food is distributed throughout the 20,000 square mile area through our Rural Outreach and Delivery Program. - As a member of America's Second Harvest - the nation's food bank network, we are one of two food banks in the nation designated as a staging area for disaster food storage. - Connecting eligible East Texans with social service benefits, especially nutrition benefits. - Educating people in the East Texas area about nutrition education including the cooking, nutrition and food budgeting skills they need to make healthy and economical food choices.
