I Can Be Brave

Hi my name is Carter and I am 7 years old. During my short life I have been in and out of the hospital so many times because I was born with a Congenital Heart Defect called Ebstein’s Anomaly. I am getting ready to have another surgery soon; it will be my 4th major surgery. It can be really scary but I can be brave! I have so many smart and wonderful doctors that take good care of me. By having this surgery my doctors say that, “I will be able to play and run with my friends”. I am really excited because I can’t wait to play with my friends and with my little brother. I am so lucky to have great parents. I know my mom, dad and little brother will take such good care of me and be by my side the whole time.
Carter, was born with a Congenital Heart Defect called Ebstein’s Anomaly. He had his first surgery at just 15 days old. Carter has had 3 more surgeries since then. In 2016, he had his tricuspid valve replaced and had been doing pretty well. In 2019, Carter started showing troublesome signs of fatigue and shortness of breath. After extensive testing, his doctors found that his right ventricle wasn’t keeping up with his body’s needs and it was placing too much stress on his artificial valve, causing it to leak.
In order to treat this, Carter will undergo open heart surgery the first week of April to redirect the blood flow from his heart directly into the lungs. This will lessen the load on the right side of his heart and replace his artificial valve. I am setting up this GoFundMe page on behalf of my nephew, Cory and his wife Kate (Carter’s parents). I would like for us to chip in to help them with their everyday expenses and to lessen the financial burden that they will incur during this very difficult and stressful time. Any amount will help!!! Thankfully Cory is able to take the time off of work to be with his wife and son but unfortunately this will be leave without pay. As you can imagine this will cause added stress for Cory and Kate. My hope for this GoFundMe account is allow Cory and Kate the financial freedom to be with their son throughout this entire process as he undergoes open heart surgery and his recovery. So they do not have to worry about finances. This way they can dedicate all of their time and energy to their loving son who needs them. I hope to have all donations in before Carter's surgery.
Carter is a goofy 7-year old with a larger than life personality. He loves animals, especially his cat Shadow. And he loves his little brother, Cuyler. He is very good at drawing, loves to Lego build, he is very creative and he loves to read. He is very nervous for this surgery but he is so excited to start feeling better!
Please join me in contributing to this wonderful cause and remember every little bit helps!!! Thank you so much and may God bless each of you.
