HYC Blue Fund for Police Jiu-Jitsu Training
Donation protected
This initiative is one that our board is passionate about as I have seen personally how
teaching Police Officers has positively affected them and our local community. Now
more than ever, we see the need and demand for Police Officers to have better training
for physical interactions with the public.
Through donations to HYC’s Blue Fund, we will be able to sponsor select local Police
Officers to receive Jiu-Jitsu training to the Blue Belt level. This level is the minimum we
deem sufficient to see benefit for both the Officer and local community. Blue Belt is a
sophomore level in the art of Jiu-Jitsu. The belts rank from white, blue, purple, brown,
and black with it being an average of 8-12 years to achieve black belt. Blue Belt is a
level of achievement where we feel comfortable, they will know how to handle street
encounters better, and will mitigate risk to all involved. Blue Belt is also a belt level
where Officers will then likely buy-in to the training themselves to further develop their
training on their own.
The goal is to start locally on the East End (Hamptons) taking care of our Police and
Civilians and making sure these donations have a direct impact on the local community.
Better trained Officers via Jiu-Jitsu means the less likely use of serious physical force by
way of weapon systems. Further, the goal is to promote the safety and well-being of our
local Officers, which in turn mitigates the risk to them and our communities. Jiu-Jitsu
should be a mandatory part of Police training but unfortunately this is not a reality that
departments will fund. By working together with our community members who support
our local police, as well as the officers and members of the PBA’s, we believe we can
provide tuitions for multiple officers per year that have never trained in Jiu-Jitsu and truly
make a difference locally.
All our board members firmly believe and have seen the direct effects of Jiu-Jitsu on
police officers and the local community.
Researching most schools in the Long Island, NY area, the average monthly
membership is $200 monthly with it taking an average of 2 years to make it the Blue
Belt Rank. This varies based on volume of training per week, level of fitness, etc.
We thank you for your consideration!
