Jett’s Journey (Massmann)

As the saying goes “Why do bad things happen to good people” Jeff, Erin, Bailey, Ryder and Jett are an incredible family. I don’t know anyone that has more of a work ethic than my brother in-law Jeff. Jeff works on the family farm and is a jack of all trades. Erin has a heart of gold and is the backbone to this family. She works at New Flyer as a Customer Program Manager. She enjoys gardening, hunting and spending time with family and friends. Bailey who is 15 is a beautiful young lady who is involved in a variety of activities such as volleyball. Ryder has a heart of gold like his mama. At 11 years old you can find him riding his dirt bike or snowboarding on the slopes. And last but not least is Jett Jerry. There is never a dull moment with this rambunctious 5 year old. When he looks at you with those angelic eyes you just can’t say no, and will make you laugh constantly with his great one liners.

Jett has gone through a lot of challenging times in the last few months. Jett had an accident on April 24, 2021 resulting in a broken humerus bone. However, Jett’s had to undergo surgery to pin the bones back together. On June 3, 2021 the pins were extracted. Within 3 days Jett spiked a fever, had significant swelling and began having fluid

draining from the pin extraction site, all through the bandaging. Jett was seen immediately and treated with antibiotics, by June 10, 2021, Jett was hospitalized in St. Cloud MN with an severe internal infection. By evening, Jett was transferred to Children’s Minnesota hospital. Between June 11- July 1, 2021, Jett had undergone 4 more surgeries, 2 MRI’S ultrasounds and more x-rays to the countless X-rays since April. Despite the efforts by medical teams to surgically remove the infection, a wound vac, drain tube, antibiotics; not only does the infection remain but it has caused significant damage to the bone. The infection has prevented blood supply to the bone causing the bone, growth plate and tissue around his elbow to begin decaying, dying. As treatment continues, so do the expenses. Jett has yet undergo therapy for both the traumatic experiences he has faced and will face, he will need occupational and physical therapy among additional procedures and surgeries to come. Jett has been referred to an internal team of doctors that specialize in pediatric orthopedics who will in time perform more surgeries in efforts to save Jett’s bone and arm. It is unknown, but hopeful Jett will regain function with his arm and be a boy again. Please support my Go Fund Me by donating and sharing with family and friends. Thank you
