Rutgers Students Fight Period Poverty in Africa

Tax deductible
No one should have to choose between their health and their education.

Unfortunately, period poverty forces young girls to make this exact choice.

Period poverty is the insufficient access to menstrual products, such as pads, which is a grievous health risk that afflicts countless communities across Africa. Consequently, many women are forced to miss out on their education to prioritize their heath and avoid social stigma.

Huru International is a nonprofit organization that dedicates themselves to making reusable sanitary pads for young women in Africa. The Huru kit consists of a 2-year reusable pad with 4 absorbent layers, soap, underwear, and a reproductive health brochure. This is then distributed to numerous schools, even those in remote villages. They work closely with local communities in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and their efforts have significantly improved the accessibility of menstrual products, effectively combating period poverty in Africa.

Huru has persistently fought against period poverty, but they don't have to do it alone. With any manner of contribution, you are directly funding these kits and supporting young women in need. Each donation works towards the $35 kit that each girl receives. Any and all donations are appreciated, as Huru works to widen access to essential sanitary products that many take for granted. Sanitary health is a basic human right that we all deserve and we should help those without it together.

This fundraiser has been organized by a class of Rutgers students in partnership with Huru International. To learn more about Huru, you can visit their website here: https://www.huruinternational.org/.
