Hurst Brothers Battle Hurlers

Donation protected
As many of you know, three of Brian and Casey Hurst's five boys have been diagnosed with Hurler Syndrome, a very rare, and currently incurable disease. The family has found very specialized care in Minnesota and travels there for months at a time for appointments and surgeries.

As you can imagine caring for the boys and keeping up with their medical expenses would be overwhelming for any family. Through the kindness of family and friends we can help ease their financial burden through any size donation. We will continue to pray for a cure and for the family's continued amazing resolve and positive attitude in every obstacle they face.

What is Hurler syndrome?
Hurler syndrome is a disease a child is born with that affects metabolism. In Hurler syndrome, the body is missing an important protein (enzyme) to break down a sugary substance in the body. When the sugary substance isn't broken down, it builds up and causes problems.  Children with the disease can have skeletal abnormalities and joint disease, issues with growth and heart valve problems. Problems with hearing, learning, and moving, are just some of the challenges the boys face.

The Hurst boys Baen, Brock and Bryce, along with their parents, have endured countless major surgeries, testing and days and months in the hospital. Even a fever can be life threatening. We have all followed Casey's posts on Facebook over the years and have been in awe of the boys' amazing spirit and happy dispositions and their parents' tireless quest to provide them with the very best care.

The University of Minnesota was the first institution in the United States to offer Hurler patients intravenous enzyme replacement therapy in conjunction with bone marrow transplants. They offer the most comprehensive care for Hurler's children in the country. Which is why the Ronald McDonald House / Gillete Children's Specialty Care is home for the Hurst family many months of the year.

Join us in sharing our continued prayers and well wishes for the entire Hurst family. Anyone wishing to help financially with the overwhelming travel and medical expenses can do so through this GoFundMe page.
