Hello, Everyone!

My name is Nyesha Rose! I am the child of two Jamaican-descended parents. As the oldest and first grandchild, it is morally and personally my duty to honor my family’s legacy and care for those who came before me.

First and foremost, I want to thank God for protecting my loved ones and family friends in all parish's throughout Jamaica.

For the past few days, I’ve been doing my best to gather information and reach out to family and loved ones. As many of you know, the power has been out across much of Jamaica, making communication incredibly difficult. Not only that, the roads are completely dismantled causing no access to leave or enter partially areas. After days of worry and waiting, I finally heard from my family and received the heartbreaking news that our family home in Savanna La Mar, Westmoreland, along with the surrounding neighborhood has been destroyed, displacing family members, along with many of our neighbors’ homes by Hurricane Melissa.

This home means so much more than just a propery. It was built and cared for by my great-grandmother, Dorothy Walker, affectionately known as “Aunt Dar.” She was the heart of our community: the local dressmaker who created wedding gowns, school uniforms, and birthday dresses, pretty much making anything for anyone in need. She helped raise neighborhood children and welcomed everyone into her home with love, kindness, and generosity.

Now, that same home and community that once gave so much to others need help to rebuild. I’ve created this GoFundMe to raise funds to rebuild our family home and our surrounding neighbors who are also suffering from this disaster . Every donation, no matter how small, will go toward rebuilding materials, food, clothing, essentials, and community recovery efforts in Savanna La Mar.

While the loss is overwhelming, I’m holding onto hope, hope that together, with your kindness and generosity, we can restore what was lost.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your prayers, support, and love especially those who've reached out to me personally. Please continue to keep Jamaica, especially the people of Sav, in your prayers as we begin the long road to rebuilding.

With love and gratitude,
The Walker and Gray Family
