Help Rebuild St. Mary, Jamaica — Retreat & Petersfield Families
My name is Roxeen Mundy, and I’m asking for your help for my family and community in St. Mary, Jamaica — specifically the Retreat, Petersfield, & Highgate areas. I was raised and spent many summers in my Grandmother, Eulalee "Norma" Davis's home which is located in Petersfield, just 30–40 minutes from Ocho Rios in the mountains.
After Hurricane Melissa, many families — including my own — are without roofs, water, food, and electricity. These are my relatives, neighbors, and lifelong friends. Our family names are the Davis, Mundy, and Aitcheson families, representing generations of strong, hardworking people who have always looked out for one another.
I was born in St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica, and migrated to New York as a child with both of my parents. We are all U.S. citizens now, but Jamaica will always be home. My parents are both senior citizens, retired and unable to physically assist with the volunteer efforts taking place in the towns we’re from, but our hearts remain there.
We were supposed to travel to Jamaica on December 22, 2025, to hold a final memorial service for my grandmother, Eulalee “Norma” Davis, affectionately known as Ms. Norma. She passed away four years ago today on November 1, 2021, in a nursing home in Queens, New York, during the pandemic. Her body was later sent home to Jamaica, and my Mother had to bury her on her own as no one was able to travel due to the restrictions of traveling during COVID. We planned to tomb her grave on December 27, 2025.
Ms. Norma was originally from Hanover, Jamaica, which is on the West coast of Jamaica which has also been heavily destroyed by Hurricane Melissa. She was a true matriarch — a woman of deep faith, compassion, and generosity who helped raise countless people throughout her life. She poured into her community without hesitation and made sure no one went without.
In my heart, I know she would rather we help as many people as possible right now — especially those in Petersfield, the town where she raised her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren — most of whom still live there today.
Instead of traveling home to celebrate her life in person, I would want to honor her legacy by giving back to the very communities she loved most — Retreat, Petersfield, Highgate, and Hanover.
It’s in everyone’s best interest that we donate and send help as soon as possible. These areas are still without running water, electricity, and basic necessities, and people are struggling just to get by day to day.
All donations will go directly toward essential relief items such as:
Food and clean drinking water
Toiletries and hygiene products
Feminine hygiene products
Medications and first-aid supplies
Baby diapers and formula
Garbage Bags
Gloves
Batteries, flashlights, and other survival items
I’ll personally coordinate with trusted family members on the ground to make sure every dollar goes exactly where it’s needed most. Even a $1 or $5 donation helps provide comfort, hope, and survival to those who’ve lost nearly everything.
Please help me honor my Grandma, Ms. Norma’s memory by helping Retreat, Petersfield, and Hanover rise again. Your kindness and generosity will directly touch lives that desperately need it right now.
As my Grandma would affectionately say to those in closing "Mi love you everlasting".
With love and gratitude,
Roxeen Mundy & Family
