Hurricane Melissa, the strongest storm to hit Jamaica in 30 years, has unleashed catastrophic flooding, devastating winds, and widespread destruction across Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.
Up to 30 inches of rain — and as much as 40 inches in parts of Jamaica — is expected, threatening communities with flash floods, mudslides, and severe damage to homes and infrastructure. Floodwaters have already washed away a bridge in the northeast of Haiti and isolated communities in the Dominican Republic.
Food For The Poor has staff on the ground in both Jamaica and Haiti, working closely with our in-country partners as we prepare to deliver immediate relief to those in crisis.
Food For The Poor’s disaster response is already underway
Thanks to your past generosity, Food For The Poor prepositioned disaster relief kits throughout the region before the storm’s arrival — including food, hygiene supplies, tarps, blankets, hydration packs, and emergency radios. These supplies are now being distributed to families who have lost everything.
But lives are in danger right now. We urgently need your help to deliver emergency aid and recovery efforts where they’re needed most.
Your generosity today will provide essential care to families in crisis across the Caribbean.
- Food and clean water for families left without basic necessities
- Hygiene kits and blankets for those seeking shelter
- Emergency supplies to help communities recover once the storm passes
Together, we can bring relief, restore hope, and help families rebuild after this devastating storm.
