Hello, I'm Robin. My early years were in Kenya and I had the pleasure and privilege to take my family there earlier this year- their first visit and my first in 30 years. We stayed on beautiful Diani Beach for a few days and, when taking a walk, we came upon this joyful throng of little kids. They were there with some volunteer helpers (including some Spanish ones). We met the remarkable Henry Ouma, the founder, the owner and the teacher of HUMBLE BEGINNING ACADEMY. Henry started this school to offer a future for poor and orphaned kids that might not, otherwise, get to school. With no government assistance Henry manages, with the kindness of others, to rent these premises with some ramshackle buildings to offer an education to these kids and even feeds them as and when he can. Only when Henry owns premises for a school and employs several licensed teachers can he get government support. In the meantime he needs significantly better funding to manage where they are. He'd love to put down a borehole for their own water supply, for instance.
It was the obvious and unselfish devotion shown by Henry that spurred us on to want to help him help others. If, by this, we can raise funds to help Henry with the day-to-day running of this little school that'd be great. If we can help lay the foundation for it to grow into a government supported and better resourced school for the future we'd be very happy!
