Hugo's Hair-raising Fundraiser

Hello! My name is Hugo Kyndt, and I'm 11 years old, known for my unusually long mop of hair for a boy.

Since the beginning of September last year, I've been on a special journey, growing my hair out not just for the sake of it but for a meaningful cause. I've decided to cut it all off and donate the money I've raised to Cancer Research UK.

The main reason I'm doing this is to honour two very important people in my life who we've lost to cancer: a wonderful teacher named Leigh Dixon and my grandfather, Chris Kyndt.

Chris Kyndt, or grandpa Chris as I would have called him, passed away from cancer before I was born. My grandmother, who I affectionately call Donnie, was his wife. She often tells me about their unconditional love and how grandpa Chris would have thought of me as 'the bees knees.' I believe we would have had a strong bond, just like they did.

Leigh Dixon, or Mrs. Dixon as we all called her, was a loving, fun, and exciting teacher at St Peter’s School. She lost her battle with cancer during last summer. The news of her passing is a memory that deeply affected me and my schoolmates. I fondly remember how after every Arsenal FC victory, Mrs. Dixon, Dominic, and I would spend about five minutes chatting excitedly about the game. We all loved Arsenal, and those moments are precious to me. It's true what they say: you often don't realise the value of a moment until it becomes a memory. I wish I could relive every single moment spent with Mrs. Dixon and cherish it even more.

So, here I am, ready to say goodbye to my hair, but hello to making a difference. I'm doing this for grandpa Chris, Mrs. Dixon, and everyone out there fighting cancer. I want to help in the way I know how, by raising money so the smart scientists at Cancer Research UK can find a cure faster. Every little bit helps, and I believe that together, we can make a huge difference.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. If you can, please help me support this cause by donating. Even the smallest amount means the world to me and to everyone fighting cancer. Let's make grandpa Chris and Mrs. Dixon proud and show that even though we're young, we can still do big things!

With all my heart,
Hugo Kyndt
