A Chance to Give Back
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Makenna Caudillo, I am a senior at Robert A. Millikan High School, and I am in the QUEST program. This year we were tasked with a project that would last throughout the year; it had to be something that was meaningful to us, but also something that was meaningful for the community. For my project I decided to give back to the community by donating to New Life Beginnings, a homeless shelter in Long Beach, and also continue my shoe drive to Precious Lamb Preschool which I have been doing for the past 5 years.
Why I am doing this:
I chose to do this for my project because I have lived a very fortunate life; I have never had to worry about food or clothes or anything considered essential, and so I want to be able to give back and help others who truly need it, the people who don’t have the simple things that I take for granted everyday. I want to give back to those who are struggling financially and give them a little piece of the life that I have always lived.
How I am going to do this:
I plan on donating the shoes to Precious Lamb by the end of January. I will be donating roughly 40 shoes at the minimum of $20 per pair. $40 can cover the cost of 2 pairs of shoes for the preschool students, and $20 can cover the cost of some cleaning supplies for the homeless shelter. The first round of donations to New Life Beginnings will be donated by the end of December. I am estimating that I will need around $1,000 dollars for the shoes, and then another $1,000 for the donations to New Life Beginnings. The donations to the homeless shelter will consist of everyday items such as bed sheets, calendars, cleaning supplies, toiletries, baby wipes/diapers, etc. I am doing this GoFundMe because in order for me to pursue my project I am going to need outside help from monetary donations or specific shoe donations. Thank you in advance to anyone who helps me raise the funds for a project that means so much to me!
Here is some more information about the two organizations
Precious Lamb Preschool:
They began helping students in 2002, since then 550 children experiencing homelessness have received full time, free preschool.
They are a Christian school teaching biblical foundations but, people of all faiths can attend and they charge absolutely no cost.
They have small class sizes in designated toddler, preschool, and pre-kindergarten classrooms, and they serve 35-40 kids.
They partner with 20 local shelters, programs, and drug/alcohol treatment centers to refer eligible families into their program. Their school is designed to allow the parents to attend programs they need during the day knowing that their child is cared for.

New Life Beginnings:
They opened their doors in 1984 as a 501 C-3 non-profit organization, their goal is to keep families together and prevent children from being separated from their mothers, while also providing long term shelter care for victims of human-trafficking and domestic violence.
It is a safe and stable environment that allows these mothers to experience life restoration. While they are there, women are engaged in personal programs that will allow them to become a contributing member of society.
Their housing capacity has increased to cater 20 plus women and children.
