Help mij naar een stamceltransplantatie (HSCT) in Mexico.

Het voelt kwetsbaar om dit te delen en om jullie hulp te vragen, maar op dit moment heb ik die écht nodig.

Mijn naam is Denise (36). Ik woon samen met mijn partner Stephan en samen zorgen wij voor ons prachtige samengestelde gezin: mijn dochter van 8, zijn dochters van 7 en 10, en ons zoontje van 2.

Tijdens mijn laatste zwangerschap begonnen mijn klachten ineens op te spelen. Ik kreeg hevige rugpijn, liep steeds moeilijker en voelde dat er iets niet klopte. Na een lange en intensieve zoektocht kreeg ik uiteindelijk de diagnose Multiple Sclerose (MS). Vanaf dat moment staat mijn leven – en dat van mijn gezin – volledig op zijn kop.

Leven met MS

MS is een chronische ziekte waarbij mijn eigen immuunsysteem mijn zenuwen aanvalt. De schade kan steeds verder toenemen en zelfs blijvend worden.

Elke dag leef ik met onder andere:

• doofheid in verschillende delen van mijn lichaam

• tremoren (trillen) in mijn handen, romp en benen door laesies in mijn wervelkolom

• zenuwpijn in mijn onderrug met uitstraling naar mijn benen

• problemen met lopen door een klapvoet

• evenwichts- en coördinatieproblemen

De onzekerheid en de angst voor verdere achteruitgang zijn groot. Ik wil niets liever dan volledig aanwezig blijven voor mijn gezin.

Een kans in Mexico – HSCT

Er bestaat een behandeling die de progressie van mijn ziekte mogelijk kan stoppen: HSCT (Hematopoëtische Stamceltransplantatie).

Bij deze behandeling worden stamcellen uit mijn eigen bloed gebruikt.

Eerst wordt mijn overactieve immuunsysteem met chemotherapie ‘gereset’. Daarna worden mijn eigen gezonde stamcellen teruggeplaatst, zodat mijn lichaam een nieuw en minder agressief immuunsysteem kan opbouwen.

In landen zoals Mexico wordt HSCT veel vaker uitgevoerd, met ruime ervaring en goede resultaten.

In Nederland wordt de behandeling helaas alleen in zeer uitzonderlijke gevallen aangeboden, waardoor dit voor mij geen haalbare optie is.

De kosten voor deze behandeling bedragen ongeveer €65.000 — een bedrag dat wij als gezin onmogelijk snel genoeg kunnen opbrengen.

Help Me Get a Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) in Mexico

It feels vulnerable to share this and to ask for your help, but right now, I truly need it.

My name is Denise (36). I live together with my partner Stephan, and we care for our beautiful blended family: my daughter ( 8), his daughters (7 and 10), and our little son (2).

During my last pregnancy, my symptoms suddenly began to appear. I developed severe back pain, started walking with more difficulty, and felt that something was seriously wrong. After a long and exhausting medical journey, I was finally diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). From that moment on, my life — and that of my family — has completely changed.

Living with MS

MS is a chronic disease in which my own immune system attacks my nerves. The damage can worsen over time and can become permanent.

Every day, I live with:

• numbness in different parts of my body

• tremors in my hands, torso, and legs caused by lesions in my spine

• nerve pain in my lower back radiating into my legs

• difficulty walking due to foot drop

• balance and coordination problems

The uncertainty and fear of further deterioration are overwhelming. More than anything, I want to remain fully present for my children and my family.

A Chance in Mexico – HSCT

There is a treatment that may stop the progression of my MS: HSCT (Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation).

This treatment uses stem cells from my own blood.

First, my overactive immune system is “reset” with chemotherapy. Then, my own healthy stem cells are reinfused so my body can build a new and less aggressive immune system.

In countries like Mexico, HSCT is performed much more frequently, with extensive experience and positive results.

Unfortunately, in the Netherlands this treatment is only offered in very exceptional cases, making it inaccessible for someone in my situation.

The treatment in Mexico costs around €65,000 — an amount our family simply cannot raise quickly enough on our own.

Ayúdame a hacer posible mi trasplante de células madre (HSCT) en México

Se siente vulnerable compartir esto y pedir vuestra ayuda, pero en este momento realmente la necesito. 

Me llamo Denise (36). Vivo con mi pareja Stephan y juntos cuidamos de nuestra hermosa familia ensamblada: mi hija de 8 años, sus hijas de 7 y 10, y nuestro hijo pequeño de 2 años. 

Durante mi último embarazo mis síntomas empezaron de repente. Sufría fuertes dolores de espalda, cada vez me costaba más caminar y sentía que algo no estaba bien. Después de una búsqueda larga e intensa, finalmente recibí el diagnóstico de Esclerosis Múltiple (EM). Desde ese momento, mi vida - y la de mi familia - dio un giro completo.

Vivir con EM 

La EM es una enfermedad crónica en la que mi propio sistema inmunológico ataca mis nervios. El daño puede seguir avanzando e incluso volverse permanente. 

Cada día vivo, entre otros, con: 

• entumecimiento en distintas partes de mi cuerpo 

• temblores en manos, tronco y piernas debido a lesiones en la médula espinal 

• dolor neuropático en la zona lumbar que se irradia hacia las piernas 

• problemas para caminar por un pie caído • problemas de equilibrio y coordinación  

La incertidumbre y el miedo a un mayor deterioro son enormes. No deseo otra cosa que poder seguir estando plenamente presente para mi familia.

Una oportunidad en México – HSCT 

Existe un tratamiento que podría detener la progresión de mi enfermedad: HSCT (Trasplante Autólogo de Células Madre Hematopoyéticas). 

En este tratamiento se utilizan células madre de mi propia sangre. Primero, mi sistema inmunológico hiperactivo se “reinicia” mediante quimioterapia. Después, mis propias células madre sanas se reintroducen para que mi cuerpo pueda construir un sistema inmunológico nuevo y menos agresivo. 

En países como México, el HSCT se realiza con mucha más frecuencia, con amplia experiencia y buenos resultados. En los Países Bajos, lamentablemente, el tratamiento solo se ofrece en casos muy excepcionales, por lo que no es una opción viable para mí. 

El coste de este tratamiento es de aproximadamente 65.000 € — una cantidad que como familia no podemos reunir en un plazo corto.
