Baby Jaxon

Baby Jaxon has arrived! He arrived April 2nd at 7:57pm. He weighs 4.9 lbs and 18in long. He is our little miracle. After we had our first child Parker we knew we wanted him to be a brother. However we didn't realize how hard that was going to be. I ended up having 5 miscarriages. Finally we decided we would try one more time after seeing specialists and not really getting any answers as to why we couldn't hold on to another pregnancy. We basically told the universal this is it, either we are gonna have a baby and Parker gets to be a big brother or we were done. We could no longer emotionally go through anymore heartache and 6 years of us trying to grow our family. We thought it was time for us to move on if we had to but wanted one last time.Initially in the first trimester we weren't sure if he was gonna even make it because I started bleeding like I did every time I miscarried before, however for some reason baby Jaxon held on. We were so ecstatic we had made it to the second trimester and we really started to get excited and realize our dream of having two children was becoming a reality. However around 30 weeks after a routine visit we found again that I had preeclampsia and ultrasound revealed that I had a shorten cervix with funneling. We had a couple trips to the hospital to monitor my blood pressure and monitor my cervix.

On March 30th we went for a twice weekly appointment to check on everything. Baby Jaxon on the monitor looked great however through ultrasound they had discovered by cervix went from 2.3 down to 1.5 which is where they get concerned for preterm birth. Once again back to the hospital this time I would be there 3 nights 4 days. They gave me steroid shots to help develop Jaxon lung and a nasty drug called magnesium sulfate to help lower my BP, help baby Jaxon brain and stop my preterm contractions that I wasn't really feeling. On Friday March 31st they did a test that checks the glue of your cervix. Which they had done 2 weeks prior and was negative. This is 99% sure I wouldn't have baby Jaxon in the next two weeks however this time it came back positive. Which meant there is a 50/50 shot of him coming early. They decided to keep me thru Sunday after this test.

On Sunday I was released to go home around noon. The plan was to take it easy and do bedrest at home. Once home I took a shower and got settled on the couch. My husband was gonna to the gym. At about 2:45 I had to go pee. Went to the restroom and as I pulled up my sweatpants I had that gushing feeling. My water just broke! My phone had died and I was leaking everywhere. Finally Parker helped me get my phone plugged in and called Travis to come home cause we had to go back.

We made it to the hospital once again at 3:30pm. We discussed our birth plan with the OB. Prescott can only take 34 week or older babies. Baby Jaxon was only 32 weeks and 6 days. They checked my cervix and I was still only 1cm dilated and pretty solid. They laid our options out for us. They were gonna see if they could stop the contractions that I was definitely feeling now and try and keep him as long as possible. However, my options were going to be emergency c section in Prescott and baby Jaxon most likely would be transported down to Phoenix if there were any complications. We did not want him separated 100miles away from me. Since he was not 34 weeks they airlifted us both down to arrowhead hospital. During the flight my contractions were not getting any better and by the time the doctor examined me I had dilated to 3 and he could feel the head! He said my baby is coming out today. They did an emergency c section and Baby Jaxon had arrived. Thankfully Travis made it down with Parker just in time to be in the surgical room with me. With Parker being born early at 36 weeks we knew Baby Jaxon would need some special care because we know each day counts being inside me and he came out to soon. He hadn't learned or developed some of the necessary things to thrive outside his mommy. He initially was on oxygen and on a feeding tube and hanging out in his warm box to help regulate his temp. His first day he did great and the second day was okay.

Baby Jaxon is currently on only a CPAP machine to help his wet lungs but breathing our air. He has a feeding tube however he hasn't been able to digest the formula and so now it's the IV fluids and any breastmilk I can pump for nutrition. I am only getting 2 to 3 cc. He is very sensitive to light and touching. His Iv has had to be moved and yesterday they tried to do a pik line to help reduce infection and so he doesn't have to be poked as much. However he is the 1% that it didn't work and his vein couldn't hold up . They are going to try and do it again today. However if it doesn't work then we will have to transfer to a higher level hospital and have a surgeon put in the line. He also is borderline jaundice and checking tomorrow again to see. He also has had a couple episodes of bradycardia where his system forgets to breathe or pump his heart which is one of those things he would have learned by week 35 inside me womb. We are just taking each day by day and hope for a positive day.

Travis thankfully got FMLA but if you don't work then you don't get paid either. Our insurance premium comes directly out of his paycheck. We also logistically have to figure out where to stay in Phoenix since our home is 100miles a way and Baby Jaxon needs us down here. We also need to consider our son Parker and he still has school and TBall. Also because I had the emergency c section and that is major abdominal surgery I can't drive for several weeks we are possibly looking at hotels the area. Hotels right now in Phoenix are so expensive due to prime season. We do have family in the area however they are approximately 30 miles away and with me not being able to drive and Travis possibly going back and forth for work that is another concern. With the multiple hospital visits, helicopter rides, surgeries and NICU services we are guessing our medical bill is well over 100,000 and climbing with Baby Jaxon most likely spending weeks in the NICU. We do have insurance however we have a high deductible and these unexpected changes to where to care for Jaxon and traveling expenses add up. Not to mention Parker had pneumonia in Feburary and also have his medical bills we are feeling the burn.

We are so happy That Baby Jaxon is part of our lives. He has been a fighter from day 1 in the womb to day 1 outside in this world. I can't wait to see this man gain his strength and show everyone that he's got this.
