HPC Workforce Fundraiser for Minehead School Bus incident

Hinkley Point C Workforce Fundraiser for Minehead School Bus incident of 17th July 2025.

This fund will be administrated by Ewen Huffman (Lead Chaplain) and Angie Young (Wellbeing Manager) who will be accountable to Rob Jordan.

At this early stage we are not sure what the funding will be used for but the following are possible: funeral cost, help for families with children involved in the crash, private trauma counselling for parents and children (if the NHS is not able to respond promptly or adequately), help for the Middle School? Suggestions welcome!

Careful decisions, administration and accountability will be necessary as we could be dealing with significant sums.

The Hinkley Point C construction site (of 12,000+ workers) is 20 miles from Minehead and employs many people who live there in all areas of construction, security, site operations and services on site. A number of employees have children at the Middle School. many have been through the school itself. Our hundreds of Mental Health First Aiders were keen to give and support children and parents at the school and this has spread to the workforce.

Ewen Huffman (the Lead Chaplain to the Hinkley Point C construction site) and Angie Young (head of Wellbeing at the site) are not related to anyone at the school or on the bus that had the accident but Revd Ewen has contacts with the Diocese of Bath and Wells who have been helping the school immediately after the incident and with pastors in the area who have been helping the families involved.

Through contact with the school, diocese and local churches Ewen will collect information of those in need, discuss and assess the needs with Angie and the Diocese, get clarity on what the money will be spent on, get and confirm bank details and do direct transfers of money to those individuals. A receipt of the transactions will be kept and what the money has been spent on.

All funds and transactions will be accounted for and a full account given to Rob Jordan, Hinkely Point C's Construction Director for accountability.
