Howard Liebenberg Construction Fire Recovery

Story

Howard Liebenberg, born and raised here in the Santa Cruz Mountains, is a generous, insightful, creative member of the community. Although he works with the heaviest of heavy equipment, he gracefully solves tricky mountain property problems in ways that enhance the natural beauty of our area. We were heartbroken to learn that Howard’s property in Brookdale, CA, was heavily damaged during the CZU Lightning Complex Fire in August of 2020, causing heavy losses to his business.Although his home was saved, Howard lost most of his business’s materials, tools, and equipment, some of which had been handed down through generations. It appears that his business insurance will not cover the majority of the loss, in part due to the longevity of most of his equipment. Between the pandemic, caring for his wife’s serious injury earlier in the year, and now a major fire, it’s been a difficult year.Howard’s family has been in the San Lorenzo Valley for generations as lumberjacks and contractors. As a general engineering contractor with more than 40 years of experience in site development, landslide and slope stability, Howard also contributes his expertise to various local organizations, including local volunteer fire departments and local conservation organizations. During the fire event, Howard worked nearly non-stop with the Equine Evacuation Unit at the Santa Cruz County Horsemen's Showgrounds property. He’s looking forward to getting his equipment back in shape to help the Santa Cruz Mountain community to rebuild.Howard has worked tirelessly for the community over the years, from historic floods and fires to day-to-day showing up for others. We, as his friends and neighbors, would love to try and return all the favors he’s done for so many over the years and help him rebuild his business. Please consider contributing to this campaign, or contact our fundraising team for other offerings or ideas. Your generosity is appreciated.Note: Howard’s brother Steve and sister-in-law Lisa also lost their home in the fire event. Here is their campaign: Steve Liebenberg & Lisa Cox Damage PhotosWe visited and documented three equipment and material storage areas hit by fire on the property. Other areas are yet to be inventoried.
